Many people are uncertain about what working with a coach is like or even what the benefits are of working with one. Below are some frequently asked questions and answers. Please feel free to contact us if you don't see your specific question answered below.

Q: What is The Functional Divorce Program?

A: Divorce is one of the most stressful life events you can experience. I know not just because the research says so, but because I’ve experienced it too. When I got divorced nearly 10 years ago, I wished there was a single resource I could turn to to help me make it through my divorce and all the life changes that came with it, but there wasn’t. I had to go through my painful transition with bits and pieces of help from various people, but I was charting my own path completely alone. I developed The Functional Divorce Program so you can have someone work with you through the entire process of what is often a confusing and painful transition. You don’t have to do this alone.

To begin the program, I ask each client to complete some divorce adjustment assessments so we can identify exactly which of the 5 facets of divorce (Social, Emotional, Legal, Financial, and Functional – your SELFF Quotient) we need to focus on first.

Then we customize the Functional Divorce program so that you can begin alleviating the stress you are feeling in that particular area and accelerate your successful transition from married to single.

When you were married, you were living with restrictions either imposed by your former spouse or by yourself so you could live with your former spouse. I call this the box. Once you are feeling less like your life is an uncontrollable rollercoaster ride, we begin to explore what post-divorce life could be like.

I encourage you to be open and experiment, to peek over the edge of the box you’ve been living in and see what is out there. During this discovery process, your ideal post-divorce life will gradually begin to come into focus. As it does, we will break your vision for your life down into specific goals that are realistic and achievable. Then we will create an action plan which I use to help keep you motivated, accountable, focused and able to create your ideal post-divorce life.

Q: What do I work on with a coach?

A: You work on how you’re doing and feeling, your goals and aspirations, overcoming the obstacles you’re facing, and celebrating the victories you have.

Q: Who works with a coach, really?

A: All kinds of people work with coaches - CEO’s of Fortune 500 companies, housewives, small business owners, artists, professionals, entrepreneurs, executives, teachers, students, sales professionals, clergy. People work with coaches because they want to grow and improve their personal and/or professional lives by starting in the here and now and moving forward.

Q: How do I get the most from my coaching?

A: To get the most:
  • Have an unswerving commitment to creating your ideal life.
  • Make your biggest goals your biggest priorities.
  • Focus on how you feel and want to feel, not just on what you want to produce.
  • Talk about what matters most to you with your coach.
  • Become more aware of yourself - your emotions, your experiences, your motivations, your values.
  • Reduce, maybe even eliminate, the shoulds, have-tos and gottas in your life.
  • Get more space, not just time, in your life.
  • Become incredibly self-nuturing by honoring and respecting yourself - all of yourself.
  • Be willing to see and experience things differently.
  • Design and strengthen your personal and business environments

Q: Why does coaching work?

A: Coaching works because you focus on what’s important to you. Your focus is increased because you have a trusted partner who is trained to support you in realizing your innate greatness and mirror that greatness back to you objectively so that you’re able to soar.

Q: What is the difference between coaching and therapy?

A: A coach works with people who are interested in acknowledging where they are right now and moving forward to meet their goals.

A therapist works with people who are interested in acknowleding where they are right now and understanding how their past behaviors and experiences play into their present situation.
